Azienda Agricola Erbaluna

Brothers Severino and Andrea Oberto are the current generation in the family tradition of viticulture.  They began farming the vines organically in the mid- 1980’s and have long been certified. The winery, located in the village of La Morra, also includes an eco-tourism hotel as a landing place for those who wish to explore Piemonte’s countryside.  The brothers bring a sensitivity to nature and modern winemaking techniques to produce espressive, terroir- driven wines. Their prized vineyard is a parcel of the cru Rocche dell’Annunziata.

Terre Apuane

In the Apuan Alps of Carrara, Emanuele Crudeli founded this new estate on vineyards that date back to Roman times.  It is in the miniscule appellation Candia dei Colli apuane. At an altitude of 700 meters, the winery is the highest in Tuscany.  Like many young winemakers, Crudeli practiced organic and biodynamic methods from the outset. No herbicides are used in the vineyard and only natural yeasts are responsible for the fermentation.  Crudeli uses concrete vats for fermentation and ageing. In addition to Sangiovese, the “Formarossa” is made from 20% of the rare Masaretta grape.

Sete

Garagisto? Sete, which means “thirst” in Italian, is the project of Francesco Bufalini and Francesco Mazzi, two young enologists whose resumés include work at some impressive Tuscan estates. Their micro-production wine is made in a garage-sized winery in Panzano in the center of the Classico zone. They have excellent sources for fruit from the Classico zone and purposefully present a fresh, modern-style wine. Made from 87% Sangiovese and 13% Merlot, the grapes are gently pressed, fermented in inox and botti and then spend twelve months in French barrel.

Cantina Santa Maria la Palma

The Cantine Santa Maria la Palma started over fifty years ago with a handful of small family farmers.  Since then, it has become a model on the island of Sardinia for its commitment to adhering to best farming practices in growing exclusively the native grape varieties of vermentino and cannonau.  The wine-making team is equally dedicated to producing high-quality wines that reflect the standards and aspirations of its family growers.

Azienda Vinicola Biscaris

This small, family-owned winery is located in Vittoria in Sicily’s south east.  The family was influenced by the famous biodynamic proselytizer Nicolas Joly of Coulée de Serrant and took their organic farming to another level.  All the grapes are harvested and sorted by hand and fermentation is started by only natural yeasts. A minimal amount of sulfur is used and no filtration or stabilization.  The wine is hand bottled.
